Chinese Juggling: Challenge the Limits of Humankind

Nov 6, 2009

This is one of my favorite juggling performances. It was selected and shown on the 2007 CCTV New Year’s Gala. It’s of special artistic value because it perfectly integrated Juggling with Music, Chinese Opera, and Dancing.

China is one of many civilizations that have recorded juggling in early cultures. Most history books recorded this vivid performance art throughout Chinese history. The earliest juggling record dates to more than 2,000 years ago.

Many forms of juggling are universal around the world, such as ball juggling, balancing, etc. However, Chinese juggling did develop its own unique aspects, which now begin influencing the western juggling forms, especially in “Manipulation” category.

Here I list some Chinese juggling videos selected from YouTube for you. Some of them are totally unique for Chinese juggling; some are Chinese originated but also adapted by western juggling; some are universal but of Chinese characteristics. Hope you enjoy them:

    Just amazing!

I watched a local performance in Ottawa quite a few years ago and I was just staring the whole show, wondering how they did that.

Chinese acrobatic art is terrific! There is such a saying in China: the stage for one minute, the audience ten years of practice. In order to stage a few minutes of entertainment, they paid a lot of effort. http://world-culture-research.org/c.asp?d=15296 some pictures I like about Chinese acrobatic. Some people see China juggling tight, some full of classic charm.
