China Carnival #7: Old Beijing, Modern Beijing
Welcome to the October 19, 2009 edition of China Carnival. Although we have only two posts today, they are both about Beijing: Zhu shared some of her pictures about “Old Beijing”; Lovelyn told a story about her husband’s “Monkey: A Modern Beijing Opera”. Please enjoy!
Zhu presents Old Beijing posted at Correr Es Mi Destino, saying, “Cars are plentiful but people still bike everywhere, older people hang out in traditional parks and not around the Bird Nest, calligraphy is still an art that is practice in the street and many traditions are still followed. This is also Beijing.”
Lovelyn presents Martial Arts Master posted at Nebulous Mooch, saying, “My husband has been playing for this show called “Monkey: A Modern Beijing Opera.” It features two violinists, smoke machines and space age outfits. Last week, I finally got to see this mysterious production. I had no idea what it would be like because when my husband practices it, he listens to the music through the headphones.”
That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of china carnival using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
