6. Luntai Huyang Forest 轮台胡杨林

Luntai County is located at south of Tianshan Mountains and north of Tarim Basin. Here you can find world’s largest densest and best-survived “living fossil of Tertiary” – 400,000+ Mu natural Huyang Forest.

Huyang (scientific name: Populus euphratica), also known as hero tree, Populus heterophylla, often grow in the desert. Huyang is the only tree species that grows in the desert. It is very valuable, like a “living fossil plant”, comparable to the ginkgo tree.

7. Sipsongpanna Tropical Forest 西双版纳热带雨林

Xishuangbanna harbors much of the biodiversity of Yunnan Province, which harbors much of the biodiversity of China.With a total area of 2420.2 km2, Sipsongpanna’s tropical forest, evergreen broadleaf forest, endangered plants and animal species, as well as entire ecosystem are all priceless natural treasures. It is the largest and best-preserved tropical forest in China. It is the best-preserved high-latitude-high-altitude tropical forest which has a unique “reverted” plant vertical distribution.

8. Libo Karst Forest 荔波喀斯特森林

There are many world famous karst landscapes in China such as Guilin, Shilin rock forest, Huangguoshu Waterfall, etc. However, most original forests in those areas have been devastated and they have become karst rock desert landscape. Only here, at Libo karst forest, original karst forest is generally well preserved, which breaks the fixed formula of karst landscape. It is not only a unique scenic resource, but also of great scientific value.

Besides typical karst landscapes, here you can find a perfect combination of karst landscape and original forests. According to the karst shape, they are categorized as four types: 1. funnel forest 2. low-lying land forest 3. basin forest 4. valley forest

9. Greater Khingan Mountains Khingan Larch Forest 大兴安岭兴安落叶松林

Greater Khingan Range is a major mountain range in northeast China. The range is densely forested. As an eco-region it is noted for its Daurian flora, transient between Siberian and Manchurian floras. The northern section of the mountains is the coldest part of eastern China, with extremely severe winters (mean temperature −18 °F [−28 °C]) and with large areas under permafrost.

This region is covered by forests of larch, birch, aspen, and pine, with shrub cover on the highest elevations. It is rich in wildlife, including deer, elk, marten, hare, and many other fur-bearing animals. Its north part grows the only deciduous needle-leaf forest in China.

10. Bamboo Sea of South Sichuan 蜀南竹海

Bamboo Sea is the most famous bamboo tourists’ destination in China. The hills cover a region of 13km long and 6 km wide with a total number of 28 hill ranges. All the hundreds (500+) of hills are covered by 427 different types of bamboo.

Bamboo Sea combines bamboo, mountains, rivers, lakes, caves and waterfalls in one scenic region. It also has a strong collection of historical and cultural places of interest.
